Some people grow into business. I grew up in it.

Long before Corvus Financial became a reality, I was sitting at my grandparents’ kitchen table, watching ledgers being balanced and receipts sorted by hand. My grandparents ran a successful local company, and numbers were just part of daily life. Finance, for me, wasn’t abstract, it was practical. Tangible. And most importantly, it was connected to real people.

That foundation stuck with me.

After more than 12 years in finance and association management, I noticed the same pattern again and again: nonprofits and small businesses were overwhelmed, under-supported, and making decisions without clear financial insight. Too often, they were left to navigate CRA filings, HST compliance, or messy financial management alone, or worse, with no one willing to explain what it all actually meant.

That’s why I started Corvus Financial Inc., a boutique consulting and financial management based in the Ottawa Valley, serving clients remotely across Canada.

Why Corvus?

I named the business after a childhood nickname, “the three crows”, given to me by my grandfather. One day, while talking through business ideas in a Walmart parking lot (as one does), that memory came back. A few days later, I walked into a Halifax bookstore and saw a pair of crow-shaped bookends labeled Corvus.

I looked it up. Corvus is the genus for crows, ravens, and rooks—birds known for their intelligence, adaptability, and awareness.

That felt exactly right.

Corvus Financial is more than a name. It’s a nod to where I come from and a reflection of how I work: clear, calm, and quietly strategic.
